What Is e-OSCAR? The Complete Guide for Data Furnishers
e-OSCAR® is mandatory for all data furnishers. Learn what it is, why you need it, how to register in 5 steps, common dispute types, and how to respond within the 30-day FCRA deadline.
e-OSCAR® (Online Solution for Complete and Accurate Reporting) is a web-based, Metro 2® compliant automated system that enables data furnishers to receive, investigate, and respond to consumer credit history disputes submitted through the national credit bureaus. If you report consumer accounts to any credit bureau, you are legally required to register with e-OSCAR and respond to disputes within 30 days.
FCRA Compliance Requirement: Failure to respond to e-OSCAR disputes within 30 calendar days can result in forced deletion of your reported data and significant FCRA liability for your organization. There are no extensions.
What Is e-OSCAR?
When a consumer believes information on their credit report is inaccurate — such as a wrong balance, incorrect payment status, or a date of first delinquency that doesn't match their records — they file a dispute with the credit bureau. The bureau then routes that dispute to you through e-OSCAR, and you have 30 days to investigate and respond.
e-OSCAR is operated by the Consumer Data Industry Association (CDIA) and is used by all four national credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis.
How the dispute flow works:
Key Facts About e-OSCAR
- FCRA Mandated — The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires all data furnishers to investigate and respond to consumer disputes within 30 days.
- All 4 Bureaus — Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis all route disputes through e-OSCAR.
- Web-Based Portal — Access e-OSCAR from any browser at e-oscar-web.net. No software installation required.
- Metro 2® Compliant — e-OSCAR uses Metro 2® format codes and standards for all dispute communications between bureaus and data furnishers.
The 30-Day Rule — Non-Negotiable
Under the FCRA, you have exactly 30 calendar days to investigate and respond to every consumer dispute routed through e-OSCAR. If you miss this deadline, the disputed information must be modified or deleted — regardless of whether the consumer's claim is accurate. There are no extensions.
Set up e-OSCAR email alerts immediately after activation. We recommend checking e-OSCAR at least once every two weeks even with alerts enabled, to ensure nothing has been missed.
Common Dispute Types
These are the most common dispute types you will encounter as a data furnisher. Each requires a specific investigation and response within 30 days.
e-OSCAR uses standardized dispute reason codes. Each code triggers a specific investigation requirement under FCRA Section 623.
How to Register for e-OSCAR — 5 Steps
Registration is straightforward but requires information from your credit bureau accounts. Current registration fee: $90 (one-time, per organization). Approval typically takes 2–4 weeks.
Step 1 — Contact the Credit Bureaus
Contact Equifax, Experian, TransUnion, and Innovis — the bureaus to which your company reports consumer data. You will need to obtain your Access Code and Subscriber Code (also called Program Identifier) from each bureau before you can register.
You should already have your Subscriber Code from when you first credentialed with the bureau. If you don't have it, call the bureau's data furnisher support line.
Step 2 — Obtain Your Access & Subscriber Codes
Each credit bureau will provide you with an Access Code and a Subscriber Code (Program Identifier). These are required to complete your e-OSCAR registration. Keep these codes secure — they identify your organization in the dispute system.
Your Subscriber Code is unique to your organization and each bureau. Make sure you have the correct code for each bureau you report to.
Step 3 — Visit e-oscar-web.net
Go to e-oscar-web.net and click the Registration link. You will be guided through the registration process for each bureau. Have your Access Code and Subscriber Code ready for each bureau registration. Register separately for each bureau you report to — each registration is independent.
Step 4 — Complete Registration & Pay the Fee
Follow the prompts to complete your registration. The current registration fee is $90. Submit your payment to complete the process. This is a one-time fee per organization, not per bureau.
Step 5 — Wait for Approval (2–4 Weeks)
The e-OSCAR team will review your registration and respond within 2 to 4 weeks. Once approved, you will receive login credentials and can begin monitoring and responding to consumer disputes.
Set up email alerts immediately after activation so you never miss a dispute notification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is e-OSCAR registration mandatory for data furnishers?
Yes. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), all data furnishers are legally required to investigate and respond to consumer disputes. e-OSCAR is the system through which all four national credit bureaus route dispute notifications to data furnishers. If you report consumer data to any bureau, you must register with e-OSCAR.
What happens if I don't respond to a dispute within 30 days?
If you fail to respond within 30 days, the disputed information must either be modified as the consumer requested or deleted entirely from the credit report. Repeated failures to respond can result in FCRA violations, regulatory action, and significant legal liability for your organization.
Do I need a separate e-OSCAR account for each bureau?
You register once at e-oscar-web.net, but you will need your Subscriber Code (Program Identifier) from each bureau you report to. The registration process covers all bureaus through a single portal.
What is the difference between e-OSCAR and Metro 2® software?
Metro 2® software (like Hutchins Systems' Credit Time 2000©, e-CreditTime, or MORFi) is used to generate and submit your monthly credit data files to the bureaus. e-OSCAR is a separate system used specifically to receive and respond to consumer disputes about that data. Both are required for FCRA compliance.
Can Hutchins Systems help me respond to e-OSCAR disputes?
Yes. Hutchins Systems has 38+ years of experience helping data furnishers navigate consumer disputes. We can help you understand dispute codes, prepare accurate responses, and ensure your Metro 2® data is corrected properly to prevent future disputes.
